Random News of the Week (March 7, 2009 - March 15, 2009)
Finally, there is some serious talk on a third Riddick film. Now that the new game is about hit (Dark Athena), Vin Diesel is much less quiet about the sequel. "Maybe we're too tight-lipped about the next 'Chronicles of Riddick' film, and I think circa the release of [Dark Athena] that's probably when you'll start hearing more about the next 'Riddick' film" he says in an interview with Gamespot. He adds "It is underway and I almost think it's a coincidence that we haven't heard anything, that there hasn't been a lot of public stuff on the 'Riddick' movie" and confirmed that David Twohy is finishing up the script.
Since Danny Boyle’s landslide win at the Oscars, he’s obviously in HIGH demand right now. There is a rumor floating this week that he may have been offered a seat at the director’s chair to direct the next Bond film. Boyle if very much capable of doing the smart big budget film and has proved extremely consistent in his quality so it could be great.
THOR and AVENGERS have both been delayed by Marvel Studios until 2011. SPIDER-MAN 4 is now dated for May 6, 2011. The studio needs more time to get the properties “right”. Marvel is also looking to completely “reboot” FANTASTIC FOUR with an all new cast and story line. None of the original cast will be involved.
Kevin Smith’s big budget debut will be to direct Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan in a buddy cop movie called COUPLE OF COPS. The project centers on a pair of cops who track down a stolen baseball card, rescue a Mexican beauty and must deal with gangsters and laundered drug money. No comment…
We found out a couple of weeks ago that Christopher Nolan’s next movie will be INCEPTION. Now we find out who the lead will be and it is not Christian Bale. Leonardo DiCaprio is going to play the lead in this sci fi film.
Stallone’s THE EXPENDABLES has some more cool news about casting. Steve (stone cold) Austin is now in (the wrestling star) and Charisma Carpenter is also joining the cast. This looks better every day.
Tons of interesting spoilers are out on TRON 2. First of all, the title will not be TR2N. More likely it will be something like “TRON: …”. The story is set 25 years after the first movie. It will have light cycles. The plot revolves around Jeff Bridge’s character Flynn and his son who goes into the grid to find him after he turns up missing. Word on the street is that Bridges is really embracing this role and fans are going to love it.

Danny Boyle would be great for a bond movie. Especially with his directing in Sunshine. It will be exciting to see what he does next
I forgot he did Sunshine. That was a great movie, very overlooked, one of those movies like bladerunner, that wasn't big when it came out but becomes a classic later on. Going to watch that again. Danny seems to be a very versatile director able to do different genres.
