Random News of the Week (February 9, 2009 - February 15, 2009)
The big news of the week is that the Wachowski Brothers are in serious talks to take over the SUPERMAN series from Bryan Singer. Singer is moving on (no word on whether this was by choice or forced) and is keen to do a remake of LOGANS RUN next on the fast track. The Wachowskis could really shake things up for SUPERMAN (which, frankly they need to). Please, please, please! Don’t go dark though! Just tell a great story in the real Superman universe. I just have the feeling that with the success of DARK KNIGHT, we are going to see more and more superheroes getting transposed to Gotham in an effort to capitalize on the Batman craze. That would be disaster for Superman.
Chris Nolan’s (DARK KNIGHT) next film will be INCEPTION. Based on his own original screenplay, it's described rather vaguely as "a contemporary sci-fi action set within the architecture of the mind." So look for the next film in the BATMAN series probably sometime in 2012.
Scarlett Johansson is rumored to be in discussions with Marvel Studios to replace Emily Blunt in IRON MAN 2. Johansson would take on the role of Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff, who doubles as Black Widow.
Cartoon Network announced this week that it has picked-up a second season of the hit CG-animated series STAR WARS: THE CLONE EARS from creator George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation. Slated to premiere in the fall of 2009, the second season will continue to take audiences on new and exciting adventures.
An almost unintelligible comment from Van Damme came out this week in regards to why he decided not to play the part Stallone wanted him for in the upcoming EXPENDABLES. Stallone gave me a part in his next movie, but I ask him about the subject, about the story. He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be...So I didn’t do the movie"
All I can say to Joss Whedon fans is WTF! The series premiere of BUFFY creator Joss Whedon's anticipated return to television, DOLLHOUSE pulled in a mere 4.7 million viewers Friday night. This is disastrously low. Series with this kind of initial ratings usually don’t make it through the first season. Joss needs fans to pick up the viewership ASAP or this one will go the same way as FIREFLY.
