The Nods, 2009

So, the Oscar nominations came out today. The Nods. The first thing I noticed is that I haven't seen any of the movies in the Best Picture category. Never happened to me before. The second (and most awesome) thing I noticed is that Robert Downey Jr. is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Tropic Thunder. He'll lose to Heath Ledger, but it's still great that he got some recognition for his amazing role. The third thing I noticed is that Martin McDonagh is nominated for his brilliant original screenplay, In Bruges. At least my favorite film of 2008 got one Nod. Also, good luck to Danny Boyle. I hope he brings home a statue. I won't publish the full list or link to it here because I am lazy. You can find it with Google or something if you want to see all the details.

I was bummed about the nominations. I have seen some of the movies nominated, and there are good ones on that list, but there were better ones this year that should've made the list.

I want to second that notion on In Bruge. I am hoping that takes it. Was my favorite movie of last year.

Lastly, I really do hope that the Oscars suprise everyone and gives Downey the Oscar for Tropic Thunder. I liked Heaths role, but Downey hands down deserves the win

I couldn't agree more. In Bruges was amazing.

Honestly, this year was pretty weak in film. The strike and several other factors took things way off the rails. There are no real stand-outs in the list for me.

It's sad because Heath is very good but the real reason they will give it to him is pitty and his memory. It's too bad he isn't alive so his performance could stand on its own merit.
