The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

It is fun to watch some directors blossom in there film careers. You take David Fincher, and his work that he did in Zodiac, Forrest Gump, and he keeps that pristine look and feel of an epic film. Benjamin Button is no different.

I reviewed this movie almost a month ago, and it stands out in my mind as if I saw it yesterday. It was the movie making that had me in awe throughout the film. One thing to remember about David Fincher, is that he is good about taking a life long story, and condensing it down into 2 to 3 hours. That alone takes a lot of talent and visual patience.

This movie starts out were Benjamin (played primarily by Brad Pitt) is born, with every infirmity that a 90 year old body would possess. His father was looking to either kill the baby but in good faith abandoned it at a nursing home. Everyone thought as time went on, that this baby only had a few days to live. As time goes on, his body gets younger. He falls in love with a girl who is his exact age but is growing up normal like the rest of us. There is a natural connection between the two, and you see there lives grow inside and out of a complicated and yet weird relationship.

That is probably the one thing that bothered me the most about this film, was you didn’t feel that intimate relationship between the Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. I think the story line could have magnified that more than it did.

The masterpiece of this film was the aging process of both Brad Pitt & Cate Blanchets character. There were times were you see Pitt reminded me of the iconic James Dean. Even each shot in the film, was just stellar and the imagery was just masterful.

I am not saying that this was the best film of the year, but it was definitely was one of the best. It is 3 hours long, and yet it does go rather quickly, and it does maintain interest throughout.

This movie will be a definitely see, only because it execute well the whole plot. If you liked this film, then I would recommend:

Forrest Gump
All about Eve
Rebel with out a Cause
