Random News of the Week (May 11, 2009 - May 24, 2009)

In what is the best news of the past couple of months, MAD MAX 4 is on its way courtesy of George Miller. AICN had the scoop this week. Apparently - George Miller has already had the various vehicles built for years now - as they were built for the doomed FURY ROAD shoot - which was shelved while George explored JUSTICE LEAGUE possibilities. That said, the cars are out of mothballs and being prepped and tuned for the upcoming shoot. There will be a new MAX as this isn't an Ethan Embry story. There's also word on a MAD MAX Playstation 3 game that we'll be getting prior to the movie.

Bradley Cooper (YES MAN) is going to play GREEN LANTERN as previously reported. Now, it looks like he will also play Face in the new A-TEAM movie! This guy is on a roll. He hasn’t done much that the mainstream would know well but both castings seem pretty solid to me).

Chris Hemsworth (aka Jim Kirk’s father in the latest STAR TREK) is on board to play THOR in Kenneth Branah’s adaptation for 2010. Now that they have Thor locked down, the rest of the cast should be put together soon.

A remake of the ridiculous but fun CLIFFHANGER is really close to a reality. According to producer Neal Moritz, “A big-budget international action-adventure thriller set in a big mountain milieu, the makeover of Renny Harlin's 1993 pic will center on a group of young climbers. Just as they rebooted 'Star Trek,' we're going to do the same with 'Cliffhanger,' " said Moritz, who will produce. Unlike the original, where Italy stood in for the Colorado Rockies, the new redo looks set to feature multiple cliff-face locations.”

Now that Ratner is officially out of the running for CONAN, James McTeigue (V IS FOR VENDETTA) may be helming the film from here on. McTeigue is best known for his assistant director work on all of the MATRIX films.
