Random News of the Week (March 30, 2009 - April 5, 2009)
GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is looking more real. Harold Ramis gave a lot of interesting info on where things are at right now. MTV ran an interview from him where he promised that all the old core players will take part in the updated version, including Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) and Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Raymond Stantz), who co-wrote the original films. "We're all going to be in it in different kinds of roles," Ramis said. "We're going to be the sage mentors. There are going to be young Ghostbusters." At the moment, Ramis is waiting on a first draft of the script, which is being penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, two writer/producers on "The Office," who also wrote "Year One." "Gene and Lee, both of whom I mentored, are now writing the new 'Ghostbusters,' " Ramis said. "I'm consulting with them, as is Dan Aykroyd and [original director] Ivan Reitman. "Bill Murray is just waiting for the truckload of money to arrive to get him out of his office," Ramis joked.
Great news! Cronenberg is promising us an EASTERN PROMISES sequel. I just loved that film and I walked out of that movie wanting to see more of Viggo’s character. He has met with writer’s and a script is on its way.
Paul Bettany is in talks to star in a film called PRIEST. It is a horror film set in the old west. Ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire, the story follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
A 3rd MEN IN BLACK sequel has gotten the green light. After the pitiful excuse for a second film, I had hoped we were free of any more insults but since it made money, it looks like Sony is going back to the well again. No word on whether Will Smith or TLJ will be back.
Jon Favreau mentioned what will NOT be in the next IRON MAN film. Specifically, in reference to the Demon in the Bottle storyline. “We’re going for the interim space [between the origin and “Demon”] which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he’s Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero.”
Platinum Dunes has now found its new Freddy Krueger. It looks like Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach in THE WATCHMEN) is on board to play the title character in the remake of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.
