WANTED

I am a sucker for an action film especially since I have finally upgraded my home theatre system with Bluray (which is highly, highly recommended!). I have been eager to see Wanted because of the actor selection, and what the story behind the movie. What is what I expected or “Wanted?”

I forget sometimes that regardless of the actor selection, you can’t really look at that to closely because we only see 10% of what they actually film. When you have an actors like Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, and the upcoming James McAvoy, who also played in a great film Atonement in 2007 I did raise my level of expectation, which probably ruined it for me.

The film is about a guy who has no ambition or drive in life playing an accountant, having a best friend sleeping around with his girlfriend. He is traced by one of the oldest secret society of assassins, who calls themselves the fraternity. They searched and found Wes played by McAvoy because he has a gift, which he thought was a health disorder that runs in the family that he can see and react so fast, that normal speed would be slow motion for him. He was told that his father was the best assassin and he had to help them catch the guy who had killed him.

This is the first time were I saw a film that I thought they had put to much material in such short of time. It would’ve worked in two films extended or having an extra hour. I have a hard time believing that they can transform a geek who gets intimidated by anyone, and in a six week span become the top assassin ever. I was laughing when he was going through his training just waiting for the “Eye of the Tiger” theme song to “Rocky” to start playing and have him running to the top of State capitol and instead of throwing punches, shoot pistols in the air like Yosemite Sam.

Once that happened, to many holes in the dialogue and in the film started to occur. I did like action sequences. It was funny that they are taught to shoot bullets to curve to hit there target and yet in the action sequences it was like watching the A team, were a million bullets go flying as some how no one gets shot…

Do you “Want” to see this film? I would skip it if all possible. It was corny when all said and done. There are some better action flicks you can see. This wasn’t what I “Wanted.”

If you liked this film I recommend:

Lock Stock & Two smoking Barrels
Revolver
Face Off

Dude, I have to tell you that the Graphic Novel is MUCH better so check that out instead. This film barely follows even the premise frankly.
