Quantum of Solace

2.5 Stars When a blockbuster movie has its encore, the expectations are higher than the original. Typically the disappointment comes, and only in a few movies were the sequel is just as great as a film or better to follow, like Godfather Part II, or the Dark Knight, Bourne Supremacy, Empire Strikes Back or Terminator 2. Unfortunately this Bond won’t fall in the category of the greats. In fact, this movie should not have been released…

Since the worse Bond song in the Bond series featuring Jack White from the White Stripes and Alicia Keys, (which sounds like they put a song together at the last minute…) it was the sign that things weren’t good in the making.

Isn’t it amazing that trailers to movies can be so deceptive? I was so excited to see Daniel Craig regain his strength with a vengeance. The one positive thing about this film was Bond himself. He brought that anger about the death of his love, and in the process started to unravel a secret organization that at least the British Intelligence that had no clue.

This movie starts right off from where Casino Royale ended. Bond wants answers, M wants answers, and they find out by Mr. White that they had no clue of secret organization that even compromises there own government. Everyone thinks that the biggest dilemma that we face is oil…but is it??? I won’t ruin it for those who are going to see it.

Now I need to vent about what went wrong. First and foremost the action sequences were horrible!!! Let me explain. I am sure that the they were done well, but since the camera must’ve been set on zoom in, you would only here the sounds effects with out of focus shots of just the chest... If they actually zoomed out and actually showed more of action sequences, then the movie may have flowed better.

I guess the whole concept felt like another environmental point about being green while trying to mix Bond into it. I felt it was lacking some creativity for Bond. It was like the whole plot was told in the first 20 minutes, and then dragged out by another hour and forty minutes.

I hope that Daniel Craig comes back again, but he does deserve a better director, and a better script. However I hope my optimism that the next bond film will bring a better climax, and this film was only the bridge. We will see. If you want to hold off from spending $10 on a ticket to see it, then wait till it comes out on bluray.
So talking about sequels about movies, this movie would fall with the films of Ghostbusters 2, or Pirates of the Caribbean 2, or the original Batman 2 with Devito

OUCH! I still haven't seen it but from everyone I've talked to you, this was a disaster. What a missed opportunity!

When it comes out for quick release on Bluray, we will have to sit down and have you see it....

I was ultimately disappointed by Quantum, as well. The failure of this film partially due to the success of Casino Royale. We all came to the theater expecting the same clever, sophisticated, and ultimately conflicted Bond that we met in 'Casino.' If it weren't for those expectations, I imagine that this film would have met a fonder reception.

It was a fun movie, though. For a straight-up, balls-to-the-wall action movie, I enjoyed it. I recommend that people see it, but that they sit back, relax, and just go with it. It's no 'Casino,' but it will make you smile.
